Please remind your children to only play by the grassy area during recess time. Do not go to places where there is no adult supervision. Although there are four parents doing ground supervision every week, we still need all your kids’ cooperation to ensure our campus safety. Thank you. 請各位家長告知家中子女，下課時間請小朋友盡量留在草地上玩耍，請勿跑到建築後面或是人少的地方，以維護自身安全。雖然校園內有義工家長巡邏，但還需要大家配合，才能確保校園安全，謝謝。
Please remind your student again not to touch and/or use anything in the classroom, including the trash can. We are grateful to be able to use this wonderful campus. Please help take care of LJCDS classrooms and its campus so we can continue to use it. Parents, if you visit a classroom with a young child, please watch your child to make sure he/she is not touching anything in the classroom. Thank you.

PTA Parents Ninja Workout Club (NWC) is returning and we will start again in October. Our parent baseball team has already started their Sunday workout, join us if you would like to get under the sun during those precious three hours. 1910/10/18 中國首屆全國運動會開幕 - 1910年10月18日至22日，由上海基督教青年會發起的首屆全國運動會（亦稱“全國學校區分隊第一次體育同盟會”）在南京南洋勸業場舉行。比賽設田徑、足球、網球、籃球4個項目。華北、華南、上海、吳寧（蘇州南京）、武漢派140名運動員參加。The first Chinese National Games took place between 10/18 and 10/22 in 1910. 140 athletes participated in Track and Field, soccer, tennis, and basketball.
1924/10/18 馮玉祥發動北京政變，推翻曹錕政府 - 第二次直奉戰爭爆發後， 直系將領馮玉祥率部於1924年10月18日發動北京政變， 並於23日凌晨5時把北京全城控制在手中， 囚禁了“賄選總統”曹錕。 整個政變過程，沒有費一槍一彈，沒有驚擾一個北京市民。清晨，市民驚異地發現滿城皆是佩戴“不擾民、真愛國、誓死救國”袖章的國民軍士兵。 馮等聯名電請段祺瑞任中華民國國民軍大元帥，並聯合奉系軍閥張作霖，推舉段祺瑞為北京臨時政府執政。10月25日發出通電，請孫中山北上，共商國是。On Oct 18, 1924, General Feng Yuxiang launched a coup in Beijing against the infamous "Bribery President" Cao Kun, and imprisoned him. Not a single shot was fired and and no Beijing citizens were hurt. General Feng and others then invited Dr. Sun Yat-sen to join the effort in rebuilding the ROC government.
1976/10/18 騎車環球第一人潘德明逝世 - 世界上第一個以自己的體力完成環遊地球一週的人是誰? 他就是潘德明。潘德明出生在浙江湖州，從小就受玄奘萬里取經故事的影響，他經常環城長跑，爬山登高，使自己的身體能適應將來的長途旅行；他又開始閱讀有關中外地理和旅遊探險的書籍，為遠大的理想積累有用的知識。1930年夏，年僅22歲的他，隻身徒步和騎自行車周遊世界，歷經七載，經越四十多個國家和地區，受到印度甘地和尼赫魯、“土耳其之父”凱末爾、英國首相麥克唐納、美國總統羅斯福等國家元首和世界文壇大文豪泰戈爾等的接見和招待，壯麗的業績為世人所驚嘆。A Chinese sojourner who walked and biked the globe 81 years ago has left a legacy for future generations. Pan Deming was born to a tailor in Huzhou, Zhejiang province. Pan embarked on his journey from Shanghai on June 28, 1930. He didn't just encounter amazing places but also met legendary people including literary giant Rabindranath Tagore, Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi and then US president Franklin Roosevelt. Pan returned to China in 1937 with 1,200 signatures from world leaders and international organizations, and 571 postmarks from more than 40 countries. He became the first person ever to travel the entire world by bicycle and foot. Pan passed away on Oct 18, 1976.

1938/10/23 日軍佔領廣州 - 慘遭劫難的廣州市，屍橫遍街, 全市大火，燃燒數天未熄. During WWII, the Japanese occupied the city of Guangzhou on Oct 23, 1938, creating a tragic city-wide catastrophe.
1978/10/23 中日和平友好條約正式生效 - 條約有效期為10年，至今中日兩國都沒有宣佈終止條約，所以條約一直自動繼續有效。The Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship came into being on Oct 23, 1978. The treaty was valid for 10 years, and since China and Japan had not announced the termination of the treaty, the treaty has remained in effect.

1860/10/24 清政府與英法簽訂《中英/中法北京條約》 - 1860年10月，英法聯軍進佔北京, 火燒圓明園。逃到熱河的咸豐帝下令“只可委曲將就，以期保全大局”。於是24日，欽差大臣恭親王愛新覺羅·奕忻秉承旨意全盤接受英法條件,與之分別簽訂《中英/中法北京條約》。除確認《天津條約》仍屬有效外，又擴大了如下侵華權益：賠款增為各800萬兩；增開天津, 大連為商埠；准許英法招募華工出國；將九龍司割讓給英國。《北京條約》進一步擴大了侵略者通過第二次鴉片戰爭獲取的侵略權益。條約使英法獲得了大筆賠款，為英法商人開闢了新的通商口岸，使英法殖民者販賣華工合法化。條約約文原存於中華民國外交部，現典藏於臺北外雙溪國立故宮博物院。During the 2rd Opium War, the Anglo-French forces advanced to Beijing in Oct 1860, looting and burning the Summer Palaces, and forcing Emperor Xianfeng to flee from the Forbidden City. They imposed the Treaty of Beijing on the Qing government. Content of the treaty included indemnity to Britain and France increasing to 8 million taels of silver apiece, opening Tianjin and Dalian as trade ports, ceding Kowloon to Britain, legalizing the opium trade, and allowing British and French to carry indentured Chinese to overseas.
1991/10/24 趙州橋被評為國際土木工程里程碑 - 美國土木工程師學會對“國際歷史土木工程里程碑”的評選標準極為嚴格，要求必須是世界歷史上最輝煌的土木工程範例。趙州橋是被美國土木工程師學會選定的第12個“國際歷史土木工程里程碑”。在此之前被選定的有：英國的倫敦鐵橋、法國的巴黎埃菲爾鐵塔、巴拿馬運河、澳大利亞的悉尼灣大橋等。趙州橋又稱安濟橋，坐落在河北省趙縣洨河上，橫跨洨水南北兩岸，因橋體全部用石料建成，俗稱“大石橋”。建於隋朝年間公元595年—605年，由著名匠師李春設計建造，距今已有約1500年的歷史，是當今世界上現存最早、保存最完整的古代單孔敞肩石拱橋。趙州橋凝聚了古代勞動人民的智慧與結晶，開創了中國橋樑建造的嶄新局面。在漫長的歲月中，雖然經過無數次洪水衝擊、風吹雨打、冰雪風霜的侵蝕和8次地震的考驗，卻安然無恙，巍然挺立在清水河上。Zhaozhou Bridge, also known as Anji Bridge, is the world's oldest open-spandrel segmental arch bridge of stone construction. Credited to the design of a craftsman named Li Chun, the bridge was constructed in the years 595-605 during the Sui dynasty. Located in the southern part of Hebei Province, it is the oldest standing bridge in China. During the next 1,500 years, the bridge survived at least eight wars, ten major floods and numerous earthquakes, the most recent being the 7.2-magnitude Xingtai earthquake in 1966. Yet, the support structure remains intact and the bridge is still in use. Only the ornamental railings have been replaced every few hundred years. Anji Bridge was dedicated on Oct 24, 1991, as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers, becoming the 12th international landmark that the ASCE dedicated.
